How often should I talk to her on fb?

I occasionally talk to this girl on Facebook. The problem is that she never starts the conversation. How do I know If she wants to talk. I don't want to talk to her too much, (I know what thats like) but on the other end I don't want to abstain from talking all together. What do I do?
