What to do with this box turtle?

My son found a baby box turtle in the middle of the street. I would like to put it where it came from because I think it would have a happier life. (of course my son wants to keep it.) The question is, it was in the middle of the street about a block up the road. I dont know where to tell my son to put him. There are woods right beside my house but I know there are snakes in there and he is so tiny I am worried about him getting eaten. I mean this thing is about the size of my big toe. What do I do? Should I let my son keep him until he gets a little bigger? Or should I just stick the little guy in my back yard by the woods and pray for the best? Please no rude answers as my son is typing this question with me, he is only 11. Thank you.
