Are 'online' degree courses from credible universities any good?

The company I work for do recognise distance learning courses, the Open University for example is well known and very respected. Often you have to work harder to get these qualifications as you have to mix home life/ job and learning at the same time. Its a little easier on the pocket and you can take your time in getting the points needed for the degree.
